CHRISTCHURCH Carnival has launched an award for children aged five to 11 within the Christchurch area.

The Christchurch Carnival Shining Star Award is an 'esteemed annual accolade' that recognises children's accomplishments in BH23.

This initiative aims to celebrate moments of courage, creativity, sportsmanship, and community spirit among young citizens.

Jonny Rayner, director of Christchurch Carnival and Christchurch town crier, said: "We are thrilled to launch this new award, which embodies the spirit of community and celebrates the remarkable achievements of our young residents.

"We encourage everyone to nominate a deserving child and help us recognise their inspiring endeavours."

Nominations are open to all who wish to honour a deserving child, whether for their acts of kindness, environmental stewardship, fundraising endeavours, or exceptional personal triumphs.

Kelly Gee, Christchurch scout active support's unit manager, said: "This award will shine a spotlight on their incredible achievements, which often go unnoticed. I'm excited to see local children formally recognised for their selflessness and resilience."

Finalists will be selected based on testimonials provided during the nomination process and invited to a special presentation afternoon in July.

This event will provide an opportunity for representatives of Christchurch Carnival and esteemed judges to meet the inspiring young finalists.
